ICATA was formed in 1999 from an alliance between the:

• Irish Textiles Federation ITF founded 1972
• Irish Clothing Manufacturers Federation ICMF established in 1993
• Association for Woollen & Worsted Manufacturers in Ireland
  AWWMI founded in 1916
• Irish Knitwear Exporters' Guild IKEG formed in 1985

Over fifty companies engaging in the manufacturing of technical and traditional textiles andthe production of a diverse range of creative garments are members of ICATA.
